Luck Pilze
Our story
Umbria, a producer from Spello and a team that carefully selects every jar.
Umbria, the green heart of Italy
Between Perugia, Assisi and Spoleto lies a landscape of soft hills, olive groves and airy oak woods. Umbria is often called the green heart of Italy, and rightly so: chalky soils, woods of oak, hazel and poplar and a mild climate give truffles exactly what they need. Black winter and summer truffles, bianchetto in spring and, in some areas, the white truffle have been part of local cooking for generations – on Sunday pasta as much as on a quick bruschetta.
Truffles cannot be grown like vegetables. They live underground, in symbiosis with the roots of trees, and are found with the help of dogs. Every season is different, and that is exactly what makes them so special. Towns such as Norcia and Spoleto are known throughout Italy for their black truffles, and many Umbrian villages celebrate the truffle every year with their own markets and festivals.
The producer in Spello
Spello is a small medieval town of rose-coloured stone on the slopes of Monte Subasio. This is home to Il Tartufo di Paolo, a family-run truffle business that makes most of our delicacies. Its truffles come from the woods of Umbria and are processed by hand, in small batches, following recipes from the Italian tradition.
The road from the wood where a truffle is found to the workshop where it is prepared is a short one. That is what convinced us most about this partnership: closeness to the raw ingredient, care for detail and recipes that are not changed just to make things faster.
The result is creams and sauces, sliced truffles in oil, truffle butter and truffle honey, pasta and savoury spreads: products that bring the character of each truffle variety into your kitchen, even out of season. What goes into every jar is stated in full on the label and on each product page: the truffle species, the ingredients and the allergens.
Who we are
Luck Pilze is a fine-food company based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Our idea is simple: to bring authentic Italian truffle delicacies to places where they are hard to find – to Romania, to Germany and to other countries across Europe. We do not make the products ourselves. We select them, work directly with the producer in Italy and make sure everything reaches you safely and carefully packed.
Alongside the delicacies in jars, we also offer fresh truffles in season – for private customers as well as restaurants and delicatessens, always at the day's price on request.
How we select
Only what convinces us makes it into our range. We look at a few clear things:
- Origin: every product is made in Italy, most of them in Umbria.
- Taste: we try each product and ask whether it honestly reflects the character of the truffle.
- Transparency: truffle species, ingredients, allergens and nutrition facts are openly listed on every product page.
- Everyday use: each product should be easy to use – with pasta, risotto, eggs, cheese or simply on toasted bread.
We would rather offer a small range we know well than a large one we cannot explain.
Welcome to the table
Whether you are cooking with truffles for the first time or planning a special evening, explore our delicacies, try one of our recipes or ask us for fresh seasonal truffles. If you have any questions, just write to us – you will hear back from a real person.
